| The growth of China’s tourism industry creates a more important role for ChineseEnglish guide-interpreting. Because of differences in value systems, thinking patterns,social customs, history, religious beliefs and many other aspects between China and western countries, guide-interpreting as an intercultural communication activity, will definitely meet intercultural communication barriers which will impede the fluency of guide-interpreting. Guide-interpreting has three features: being tourist-oriented, being informative and attractive and being cross-cultural which closely related to Skopos theory. From the perspective of the Skopos theory and its three rules, considering the unique features of guide-interpreting, the dissertation puts forward six effective interpreting strategies which respectively are amplification, analogy, paraphrasing,omission, adaptation and omission plus adaptation for overcoming three different barriers of intercultural communication in Chinese-English guide-interpreting, namely,culture-specific expressions, barriers of imagery confrontations and barriers of discourse patterns so as to meet foreign tourists’ demands. |
