A Study Of Escort Interpreters’ Roles From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

In the context of globalization, interpreting plays an increasingly important role in cross-cultural exchanges. As a basic form of interpreting, escort interpreting is quite common in the daily communication. In most cases, interpreters need not only convey the messages, but also resort to appropriate strategies to eliminate misunderstanding and ensure the effectiveness of communication. It requires high language proficiency and intercultural communication skills on the part of the interpreter.In the light of the author’s interpreting experience at Baomo Garden, this thesis analyzed the roles that the interpreter plays in escort interpreting and put forward some insightful views. The research includes the features of escort interpreting and pre-task description process, case analysis of the roles undertaken by the author in the task. The author found that for the interpreters, besides the training of their master ability of both languages, they should enhance the awareness of intercultural communication and assume the multiple and active role to complete the task more successfully. The author hopes this dissertation will draw more attention to the study of escort interpreting, and enable the escort interpreters to get a better understanding of the role that they play.
