This paper takes the city imagination of Mumbai from the cross-cultural perspective as the entry point,considers the modernity characteristic given to Mumbai from many works,and explores how Mumbai can strike a balance between modernity and tradition.Based on Lefebvre's space theory,this paper explores the urban space of Mumbai.By analyzing the text,this paper discusses the image and characteristics of Mumbai in literature,finds different meanings given to different physical Spaces of Mumbai in a large number of written works,and then reveals the development status of the third world city in the post-colonial discourse,forming a systematic and recognizable modern urban community.This article takes the novel as the main research object,and discusses the travel notes,prose and so on.The introduction discusses the reasons for the topic selection and research value,defines the concepts of "city in literature" and "urban imagination",and sorts out the literature works with Bombay as the background and the research status at home and abroad.The first part starts from the inside of the novel and USES Michael Kron's theory of "literary landscape" and Bashra's Poetics of Space to write about mumbai's private space.The second part,the public space and semi-public space of Mumbai,shows the existing state of traditional culture,colonial culture and modern culture of Mumbai under the impact of globalization,as well as the exclusion of the bottom people in Mumbai.The third part is the state power space of Mumbai.Through the description of the power space and political space in Mumbai to explain the judicial darkness and corruption in Mumbai.In the fourth part,from a cross-cultural perspective,the author explores the different images of Mumbai under different cultural backgrounds and points out that a city with mixed cultures should establish its own unique culture.
