The collation and research of the poetry literature of the Five Dynasties has been a neglected link in the study of Chinese poetry in the past.The research object of this article is Five Generations of Poetry edited by Wang Shizhen and Zheng Fangkun.In the special period without complete edition for compiling the poems of Five Generations,Five Dynasties Poetry,as a poetic book specifically compiling the poems of Five Generations,had pioneering and summarizing value.Through the investigation of the writing process of Five Generations of Poetry,it can be found that Zheng Fangkun's ten volumes of Five Generations of Poetry have deleted 216 items and added 789 items based on Wang Shizhen's twelve volumes.From the changes,it is possible to clarify the style of the 10-volumes' edition and the concept of poetics showed in Zheng's version that is different from the original one.The style characteristics of Five Dynasties Poetry are not only different from the poetic writings,but also cannot be simply classified as a collection of poems.In fact,it has the characteristics of documentary and narrative,because most of its selected content comes from recorded texts related to poetry collected from historical notes,and it always revolves around narrative.It follows the style tradition of chronicle in classical documents since the Tang Dynasty,and embodies different editing standards from poetic chronicles'.Both of the compilation motivation and edition style of Five Dynasties of Poetry reflect the concept held by the author in compiling poetry.This concept of poetics not only lies in the continuation of Wang Shizhen's unfulfilled ambition to compile books and the view of connecting poems with persons,but also to reflect the spirit of the sentence-"because of the graceful decline of the past century,you can see it." It is the author's understanding of the positive changes in the style of poetry.This understanding is established under the basic norms of poems based on time,that is,"Fengya is changing",that is,the essence of poems lies in "Poems based on time"-the quality of poems is determined by the ups and downs of the times.However,the book's concept of positive change does not just emphasize the decisive role of politics,but repeatedly reiterates the influence of the changes in the personality of the poet in the evolution of poetry.The reason why Five Generations of Poetry is of groundbreaking and summarizing value is that on the one hand,in the specific compilation practice,it has created a precedent for the collection of poetry albums that specifically include the poems of Five Generations,which can compile poetry collection of Five Generations for today.The collection provides literature materials,which is helpful for the synchronous study of the literature of Five Generations.On the other hand,in the abstract compilation purpose,it not only reflects the personality characteristics of Zheng Fangkun's studies,but also is closely related to the times.It has the influence of the style of poetry in the early Qing Dynasty.So it is an important document for understanding the development of poetics in the Qing Dynasty.Perhaps because of the lagging development of the literature of Five Dynasties,or the lack of a chronicle style of poetry commentary due to the book's emphasis on documentary and narrative,the Five Generations of Poetry has not received enough attention in the academic world for a long time.However,its compilation is actually based on academic research,and it shows considerable poetic value in both the literature research and the style characteristics.
