The culture of Chengdu represents Bashu culture, and it is an integral part of Chinese culture as well.Though it is a regional culture in China, the culture of Chengdu is increasingly well-known to the outside world with the further globalization.Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu introduces the culture and history of Chengdu through introducing streets and alleys in Chengdu. With a rich cultural connotation, the book describes the historical events happening in the streets and alleys and the historical figures living there.Due to the differences between Chinese and English,it is of great significance to precisely translate the connotation of this book in English and to effectively disseminate the culture of Chengdu to readers who speak English as mother language in an understandable and acceptable manner. The Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes the response of the receptor and aims to achieve the equivalence between two languages.Translating the book from the perspective of this theory can better fulfill this translation practice. In view of this, this translation report is under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory. In the process of translation practice, the translator combines the theory with practice.Trying to render the source text and disseminate the culture of Chengdu to the receptor in an understandable and acceptable way,the translator makes efforts to analyze the source text from the lexical level, syntactic level, and discourse level in detail.Besides, through the case study, the translator illustrates that, under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory, the diverse functions of language communication can be achieved in this Chinese-English translation practice. This report is about the whole translation practice process of Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu(Excerpt). The translator hopes that some of the achievements in the translation practice may have certain reference values for the translation studies of the culture of Chengdu or Bashu culture in the future.
