This article takes the translation of Mr.Yuan Tingdong's Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu as the research subject. The case study method is used to analyze the translator's adaptive selections on the ecological environment characteristics of the original text and whether the translator's strategies can achieve the natural equivalent of the translated language and meet the needs of the target language readers. The following three questions are the main research questions in this paper:(1)The characteristics of the ecological environment in the original text;(2)Adaptation selections made by the translator after adapting to the characteristics of the original ecological environment;(3)Whether the translator's adaptive selections in translation meet the needs of the target language and the target language readers. This paper takes the Eco-Translatology of Professor Hu Gengshen as the theoretical guidance and studies rationality of the adaptive transformation made in the translator's translation from the perspectives of linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension.Through the case analysis research method, the translator detailed the above three questions into each case. The analysis is dividedinto three steps. The first step is to determine the characteristics of the original ecological environment. The second step is to adaptively select the translation methods and explain the reasons. The third step is to give a conclusion. Conclusions are as follows:(1)Mr.Yuan Tingdong's Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu(Excerpt)contains rich local historical and cultural heritage, and the translator should consider the cultural differences between Chinese translating ecological environment and the western translating ecological environment.(2)The translator has made corresponding adaptive transformation according to the characteristics of the original ecological environment, such as omission, amplification, annotation, sentence structure adjustment and other translation methods.(3)Through the adaptation transformation analysis,it is concluded that the translator's translation satisfies the natural needs of the target language and the target language readers. In conclusion, the author believes that the strategies used in the translation of Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu can help other translators when they translate some similar texts.
