The Research Of New Life Movement In Sichuan (1934-1937)

In February 1934,Chiang Kai-shek began New life Movement in Nanchang,with the intention of changing the daily habits,reforming the morals of the people,and achieving the national rejuvenation.New Life Movement centered on "propriety,righteousness,honesty and shame".In the first phase the Clean Rules Movement was implemented,laid the foundation of bringing out the militarization,production,and art of the people.It has standardized the people,but also improved the quality of the people and carried out the construction of the national economy.With the promotion of Chiang Kai-shek,the provinces gradually established the New Life Movement Promotion Association to advance the New Life Movement,and counties and cities of Sichuan region also actively responded.Before the Anti-Japanese War,the New Life Movement in Sichuan was divided into two periods,the division is the reorganization of Sichuan New Life Movement Promotion Association in Chongqing in March 1935.In the early days,due to the disorganization of the tissue and the unification of the Sichuan area,New Life Movement progressed slowly.After March1935,New Life Movement in Sichuan gradually on the right track.Through New Life Movement,we can learn form that in the 1930 s,the National Government reformed the Sichuan area from the political,economic,military,and other aspects in order to build the Sichuan area into a national rejuvenation policy source.New Life Movement was one of the important segment.It regulated the Sichuan people from daily life and consciousness,in order to shape the modern nationals required by the National Government.However,by analyzing the main body and process of its implementation,we can found that it is difficult to achieve the envision of Chiang Kai-shek and the National Government.The content that cannot solve the practical needs of Sichuan people and cannot gain the Sichuan people's acceptance,was unable to achieve the desired effect.This is the key point.However,it is worth mentioning that in the implementation process of New Life Movement,the formulations of daily life and behavior standards have certain positive significance in reforming social customs and improving the quality of Sichuan people.
