Cultural Symbolization

Baudrillard takes symbol as the point to critique the alienation phenomenon of culture in the consumption society in his post-modern mass culture theory.In his theory,the logic of symbolic consumption has already dominated the society that the consumption activities can be taken place only if everything transforms into symbols.The culture become symbolic under the control of symbolic consumption.Cultural symbolization leads to the loss of social critical function and can not truly satisfy the people's spiritual demand.Culture is viewed as the symbol to proceed the activities of production and consumption by human.And it is also transmitted and reproduced as symbols by media.The alienation phenomenon of culture also results in the people's spiritual crisis and alienation of value in the consumption society.When Baudrillard critiqued the cultural symbolical phenomenon in the consumption society,he unduly emphasized the function of symbol that made everything become highly abstract.Finally,Baudrillard who has been deeply falling in to symbolic fetishism let his theory trend towards nihilism.He can not find the way to break the cultural symbolization in the realistic society.The only means he found is to build a “hyper-reality”world to satisfy people's spiritual demand in a false way by using symbolic culture through the mass media.However,the solution he proposed led to the dissolution of practical significance and the disappearance of human personality.In order to avoid the dilemma of Baudrillard's theory,this paper established in the practice viewpoint of Marxist philosophy attempts to find solution to break up the cultural symbolization in the consumption society.By emphasizing the important function of people in the production,aesthetic activities and consumption of culture,we can form a contemporary cultural viewpoint.Its cultural subject is people and the cultural nature is production practise.Let the humanistic spirit and the exceeding spirit return to the culture.And let the culture regain the function of critiquing the realistic society and promoting the mental culture of individual.
