An Organic Interpretation Of Guo Xiang's Thought Of Independence

Guo Xiang's thought of Independence is the comprehensive summary stage of metaphysics in Wei and Jin dynasties.Compared with theories before,Guo Xiang's thought has a more complete system.However,as time goes by and human mind develops,the degree of its sophisitication is gradually challenged.Guo Xiang's thought of Independence not only emphasize the ancient tradition of life philosophy,but also think highly of the subjectivity that exhibited by the process of entity generation.Such a characteristic is similar to British philosopher,A.N.Whitehead.But Whitehead's organic philosophy is much more modernized in conceptual system and logical framework than Guo Xiang's thought which was came up with in Western Jin dynasty.It will be helpful in clarifying the unclear part in the description of entity generation to compare Guo Xiang's thought of Independence with Whitehead's organic philosophy.The reason of making comparison like this is to make Guo Xiang's thought a complete system,in which cosmology,ontology and realm theory become coherent.In order to elaborate the organic connotation of Guo Xiang's thought of Independence,the main part of this dissertation contains three chapters.In chapter two,the emphasis of the thought of Independence on the subjectivity and process of "being" as the generating subject will be shown through the discussion of Self-generation and Relative-cause.This kind of emphasis is the reflection of the organic connotation of Independent thought.In chapter three,the concept,order,which has not been emphasized enough before will be added to Guo Xiang's philosophy by the discussion of the Realm of Mystery and its order and reality.In this part,the relationship of "being" as the generating subject and Realm of Mystery as the circumstance will become more clear.Chapter four mainly talks about the role Individual Nature as the principle of Independence plays in the generating process of "being".The division of subject and object was bridged by the algorithm of Individual Nature.Thus,universal harmony,which was called Carefree in Guo Xiang's realm theory is possibly to become reality.This dissertation is achieve an interpretation of organism of Guo Xiang 's thought of Independence,by combing this three chapters.Although the organic part of Guo Xiang's philosophy is similar to Whitehead's organic philosophy in the aspect of world outlook,the oretical purport of Guo Xiang's philosophy is still fit in with the tradition of Chinese philosophy.The reason why Guo Xiang describes the generation of entity and the world in the perspective of organism is to prove the possibility of harmony between human beings and the world by revealing the process and complexity of entity and the world rather than persue the rules that are irrelevant to human beings.The harmony between human beings and the world revealed by the thought of Independence is much more a process,in which entity and the world that compose entity adapt each other,co-generate together,than an ultimate ideal.Thus,for entity,its existence,its essence and its purpose are the description of the same process,only in different perspective.In that way,cosmology,ontology and realm theory become coherent.
