The thesis uses a comparative research method to compare the female figures in Gu Kaizhi's and Sandro Botticelli's paintings, mainly for Gu Kaizhi's works: Nymph of the Luo River,The Admonitions of the Instructress to the Court Ladies and Wise and Benevolent Women;and Botticelli's works: The Birth of Venus,Allegory of Spring and Botticelli's story paintings.By comparing the women in Gu Kaizhi's paintings with the women Botticelli's paintings,we will not only understand the social status of women under the background of the two artists, but also know the aesthetic standards and tendencies towards women at that time.Furthermore,we will get a deeper understanding of how artists shape the beauty of women. The thesis is divided into five chapters in total. The first chapter introduction mainly elaborates the purpose and significance of the research and the domestic and foreign research review, including the focus, difficulty and innovation of the research content. The second chapter discusses the background of the works of Gu Kaizhi and Botticelli and the sources of female images in the paintings. The sources of female images include two parts: the translation of texts into images and the cumulative evolution of images of female characters. The third chapter is mainly about the impact of the differences in the creation concepts of the two artists on the image creation of female characters;the comparative analysis of the use of "lines" by the two artists;the comparison of composition between Gu Kaizhi's and Botticelli's paintings;etc. The fourth chapter focuses on the comparison of the aesthetic tendency of female characters in Gu Kaizhi's and Botticelli's works. The first is the pursuit of feminine beauty by Chinese and Western artists in a trans-temporal context. The second is a comparative analysis of the differences between feminine beauty in the works of Gu Kaizhi and Botticelli. The fifth chapter is to summarize the aesthetic values behind the female characters in the works of Gu Kaizhi and Botticelli. It is believed that the female figures in painting not only carry the national ideological culture and aesthetic value orientation, but also represent the artist's own thoughts. The paintings of the two artists are fine works of Chinese and Western classical art. They are also a miniature representative of the painting art under the influence of the "human awakening" trend during the Wei,Jin,Southern-NorthernDynasties and the Italian Renaissance. The comparison of the female figures in the paintings of the two artists not only can excavate the beauty of women, but also reflect the social value and social status of women of the same generation. The female figures in the paintings of the two artists play a crucial role in the history of art.The in-depth analysis of female figures also plays an inspiring role in the author's depiction of contemporary female figures.
