A Study Of Feminist Consciousness In Tales Of Hulan River From The Perspective Of Feminist Translation Theory

As one of the four talented female writers in the Republic of China(1912-1949),Xiao Hong combines her own experience to write women's fate.In her last complete novel Tales of Hulan River,Xiao Hong pays close attention to the living conditions of the women in her hometown with her unique female perspective.Depicting women's tragic destiny,she also contains a deep love for them,a profound reflection on the fate of women and a sharp critique of patriarchal culture.Howard Goldblatt is praised as the first chief translator of Chinese literature,the English version of Tales of Hulan River is his first translation and the only English version of Hulanhe Zhuan until now.This paper is based on the feminist translation theory of Luise von Flotow,a preeminent Canadian feminist scholar,to analyse whether Howard Goldblatt agrees with the feminist viewpoint embodied in the female and life consciousness,gender consciousness and introspection consciousness,as well as what feminist translation strategies have been adopted,and whether the goal of strengthening the female voice and deconstructing the male power has been achieved.There are six Chapters in this paper.In the first Chapter,the background information and purpose of study are introduced,the research questions are presented,and also the basic outline is given.In the second Chapter,the first two parts are the researching status about the feminism and feminist translation both at home and abroad,the last part is the introduction to the study about Xiao Hong and Tales of Hulan River.The third Chapter is about the theoretical framework of Flotow's theory and the key points of the study.The fourth Chapter is the introduction to the author,the novel,and the impact of Xiao Hong's experience on her writing.The fifth Chapter is the main part of the study,a study to the text Tales of Hulan River from the perspective of Flotow's feminist translation theory.In the sixth Chapter,a conclusion is made,the disadvantages are pointed out,a future study is predicted.
