Archaeological Observation Of The County Sites Of Yunzhong County In Han Dynasty

Yunzhong County is mainly located in the present Hohhot area.Because of its geographical location,it has been valued since the Warring States Period.Zhao Guo established the Yunzhong City here.The Qin Dynasty established Yunzhong County.After two Han dynasties,it was merged into a new county in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.As an important border town in the north,issues related to Yunzhong County have been discussed and studied by senior scholars,and fruitful research results have been obtained,but the location of the county offices in Yunzhong County has been debated.This article mainly summarizes the previous scholars' speculations on the locations of the county offices in Yunzhong County during the Han Dynasty.I will puts forward my own views and expound the reasons on the location of the county offices in Yunzhong County during the Han Dynasty according to the records of "Shui Jing Zhu" and other documents,combined with the excavated archaeological data.During the Western Han Dynasty,Yunzhong County ruled 11 counties,namely Yunzhong,Shaling,Zhenling,Shanan,Yuanyang,Beiyu,Wuquan,Xianyang,Duhe and Yangshou,Taolin.In the Eastern Han Dynasty,the Duhe and Yangshou and Taolin were abolished,and Chengle,Dingxiang and Wujin,which originally belonged to Dingxiang County,were attributed to Yunzhong County.This paper mainly discusses the locations of the 14 counties under the jurisdiction of Yunzhong County in Han Dynasty.Among them about the locations of the ancient cities in Yunzhong County,Shaling County,and Chengle County,the views of scholars are mostly the same.They are the ancient city of Gucheng Village,the ancient city of Halabanshen East,and the ancient city of Helinger Tuchengzi;Due to the lack of literature and archeological data,Yangshou County only summarized the points put forward by a few scholars.Although there are many scholars in Yuanyang County and Wuquan County who put forward their own views,their viewsare either inconsistent with the literature or archaeological data,and there is no ancient city that conforms to the literature and archaeological materials for the time being.Therefore,these two counties have not put forward their views,and only put forward some views on past views.About the three counties of Zhenling,Shanan and Taolin,I will put forward my views on the basis of summing up the views of the senior scholars on the three counties.The four counties of Beiyu,Xianyang,Duhe and Dingxiang,because of insufficient archaeological data,only based on historical data to propose its general position;Although "Shui Jing Zhu" has records about Wujin County,there are few views on the location of its ancient city.According to the survey data of the ancient city,this paper puts forward a possibility of reference for scholars to discuss.
