Translation Of Semantic Logic In Architectural Text

This translation report is based on Chapters 1 to 4 of Building Information Modelling,Building Performance,Design and Smart Construction,which respectively demonstrates themes about sustainable cities,circular economy,Building Information Modelling(BIM)and the key conceptual discussions around sustainable development,providing high research value in the construction field.This book is an architectural science text,which has the characteristics of rigorous content,complex structure and text function to transfer information.Due to the differences between English and Chinese in grammatical structure,writing logic and cultural background,how to reproduce the semantic logic of the original text is a major problem for this translation practice.Modern Chinese divides compound sentence into coalition compound and modifying compound according to the logical relationship between clauses.Each clause in the coalition compound is equal in meaning with no difference in principal or subordinate.While the clauses in the modifying compound consist of principal clause and subordinate clause.Therefore,this paper mainly discusses the translation of semantic logic from two aspects: coalition and modifying.Combining with case analysis,the author discusses the definition,presentation patterns and translation methods of six logical relationships: coordination,climax,continuation,comparative,causal and turning.Inserting,recasting and splitting-off are adopted to connect the semantic relations of multiple elements in the translation of coalition relation.In terms of the translation of modifying relation,the logical relationship of clauses can be clarified by means of literal translation,liberal translation and the like.The author will summarize the translation strategies of logical relationship in the architectural text,so as to ensure the translation to be accurate and readable.
