The Shift And E-C Translation Strategies Of Dash In Financial Text

Punctuation is an indispensable part of discourse.As one of the important punctuation marks,the cohesive function of dash plays an important role in the use of language,the expression of information and the understanding of content and meaning in the text.In the process of English-Chinese translation,translators often only consider the differences between the two languages and cultures,but pay little attention to the correct conversion of punctuation.When encountering dash in translation,translators usually copy dash in the target text to achieve faithfulness.However,the function of dash in source text,as well as the frequency of use is neglected.Consequently,logical fuzziness occurs and the translation will be incohesive and unreadable.The translation material are financial academic theses with formal style,in which the frequency of the dash structure clause is high.So that it is the key to accurately understand the semantic relationship of the dash structure clause.Therefore,based on Halliday's cohesion theory and guided by the logical semantic relationship in clause complex,this translation report analyzes the specific meaning of dash structure clause and the cohesive function of the dash,and classifies the function of the dash according to the semantic relationship,accurately conveying the semantics of financial academic text according to the conversion of the logical contact.Through the reasonable conversion of dash,the semantics of financial academic text is accurately conveyed.Differences between English and Chinese make the two languages different in the expression of logical relations,so that the conversion of Chinese and English dashes is not completely equivalent.According to the translation cases,the translator divides seven main kinds of cohesive functions that the dash bears in the original context: enumerative relationship,supplementary relationship,explanatory relationship,equivalent relationship,adversative relationship,causal relationship,and substitutive relationship.Starting with the cohesive function,the translator explores two major conversion methods of dash,namely keep the dash and abnegate the dash.By inducting translation cases,the translator summarizes three rules: conversing to other punctuation,adding logical conjunctions,and adjusting the sentence order.The method of adding logical conjunctions plays an important role as a connecting link in the translation context,making the translation consistent with the original text.The translation practice shows that in order to translate it well,the translator must have strong analytical skills to make out the implicit semantic logic inside the original language with the help of logical analysis and manifest them in translation,so as to avoid illogical text and make sure the intelligibility and accuracy of the translation.
