| This translation report is based on Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 of Oxford Handbook of Food,Politics and Society, which was compiled by Ronald J.Herring.Since its publication in 2015,the collection of theses has not seen any Chinese version yet.The source texts are academic ones related to politics and economics, characterized by well-defined concepts and rigorous reasoning as is represented in its complicated logicosemantic relation.Causal relation is the most common logico-semantic relation in this kind of text.Logico-semantic relation consists of explicit and implicit ones and how to effectively identify the implicit logico-semantic relation is the key to ensuring the accuracy of translation. Therefore, the biggest difficulty in this translation process is how to effectively identify the implicit casual relation and then match them with different techniques in different contexts.According to Quark, causal relation can be classified into direct causal relation and indirect causal relation, both of which can be found, during the translation process, between clauses and/or phrase based on the definition and classification of clause and phrase in systemic functional grammar. The domestication strategy together with some specific translation techniques such as addition, shift, annotation within text and annotation outside text have been adopted.Through the translation practice and report, the translator’s analytical capacity and translation skills have been enhanced to certain extent.Meanwhile,a deeper understanding of academic text translation has been achieved. Moreover,it is hoped that this report will offer some referential values to the implicit casual relation translation in academic texts. |
