In recent years, the number of drug-related cases in Guangdong committed by people from African countries has increased rapidly.Since most interrogators responsible for handling those cases lack the linguistic ability to communicate with foreign suspects, there is a large demand for English interpreters. This report, based on the interpreter's multiple interpreting practices in drug-related cases, aims to explore the roles the interpreters play in interrogation interpreting activities. This report is divided into six parts. The first Chapter mainly introduces the background including the current situation of a growing number of drug-related cases committed by foreigners especially Africans in Guangdong province, and the challenges and the status quo of the English interrogation interpreting,as well as the purpose of this report. The second Chapter is a brief introduction to the participants of the interpreting activities and the interpreting tasks. The third Chapter specifies the interpreter's advance preparations including case information collecting, glossary building, emergency plans and how to deal with African accents. The fourth Chapter discusses the roles played by interrogation interpreters. The fifth Chapter is the postinterpretation assessment from both clients and the interpreter herself. And the last Chapter is the conclusion. This report is intended to provide some insights and reference values for the potential student interpreters who are interested in this field, and therefore help them to get familiar with the line of interrogation interpreting quickly.
