Difficulties In Liaison Interpreting And Coping Strategies

With the rapid development of Chinese film and TV business,often Chinese actors and actresses collaborate with western professionals in this realm while western counterparts also participate in the Chinese filming,thus spawning increasing demands for interpreters in this area.The Skopos Theory believes that translation and interpreting is a purposeful activity based on the source text and Skopos determines the process of translation and interpreting.As a kind of liaison interpreting,the film and television interpreting has its purpose of ensuring better and effective communication.On the basis of the language service the author provided for an online TV series shooting group Cross Fire,the author elaborates the background and process of the task,the challenges she encountered,and her reflections.The main problems the author met are illogicality,redundancy,unfamiliarity with technical terms,and the integration of multiple roles.To the problems either linguistic or non-linguistic,the author follows the three rules of Skopos Theory and puts forward coping strategies comprising addition,omission,explanation and multitasking of diverse roles.It is hoped that this report will shed some light on subsequent practices concerning liaison interpreting for interpreters in filming and TV shooting.
