A Report On The Liaison Interpreting For Surabaya Delegation At Guangzhou Fair

Guangzhou Fair is an important event in Guangzhou every year.Many domestic and overseas exhibitors will attend this exposition.It is also an important platform for Guangzhou's economic communication with the rest of the world.Surabaya is the sister city of Guangzhou,its government delegation was also invited to attend this event.The author,recruited by the Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office,served as the interpreter for the delegation in the exposition.This report,based on the author's interpreting practice for the Surabaya delegation,firstly introduces the basic information of the task,then specifically describes the interpreting process,including preparation works,the difficulties the interpreter encountered,the interpreting tactics that the author uses during the process and the author's introspection after the task.After that,taking Skopos theory as the guiding principle,the author utilizes the Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule to analyze the tactics he applies in the interpreting task,including omission,recasting and amplification,etc.Finally,the report lists the quality control methods that the interpreter used in the process and gives a conclusion.With the analysis of the interpreting practice,the author hopes to improve his interpreting skills and provide some inspirations for other liaison interpreters.
