Working Environment Safety For Legal Interpreters

Cross-border crimes are on the rise with increasing international interactions,which necessitates legal interpreting.This survey focuses on the safety conditions of interrogation settings in Guangzhou.The subjects of this survey are student interpreters from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.The aim of the survey is to get a better view of safety and working condition for legal interpreters in their work places.This may provide implications for relevant parties in the interpretation process and researchers with a view to look further into the safety or working environment of legal interpreters.The survey answers the following questions: How is a safe working condition defined for legal interpreters? How is the safety of legal interpreters in interrogation settings guaranteed in Guangzhou? Methods to answer the questions listed above include documentary research,questionnaires and interviews.Survey results show that although legal interpreters' safety is protected in terms of hardware and personnel,more work still needs to be done in safety education and training,legislation and so on.
