Since China became a member of WTO 16 years ago, great changes have taken place in various fields, and China has become the world's second biggest economy. The increasing volume of foreign trade not only brings enormous benefits but also causes a lot of problems, the most remarkable of which is the increasing number of smuggling cases.Against this backdrop, more and more interpreters are needed for interrogation interpreting. The interrogation plays an important role in the stage of criminal investigation, and the quality of interpreting has a great influence on the case in the light of authority and fairness. However due the lack of professional training and the experience, some interpreters are unable to provide high-quality interpreting.Mark Shuttleworth and Moira Cowie believe that court interpretation includes all kinds of interpreting which takes place either in a court room or in other legal places, such as interrogation rooms, immigration authorities and police department. As a sub-branch of court interpreting, interrogation interpreting still calls for more research.Based on the practice, this report aims to do some exploration. The author's interrogation interpreting practice in Anti-Smuggling Bureau of Chengdu Customs took place from June to October,2015.The author did interrogation interpretation for 13 times, each lasting more than 4 hours. The case is about an Indian-American suspect who was illegally carrying red coral from Taipei to Chengdu, and was caught by customs police at Chengdu Airport. The report gives a full account of the whole interpretation process from preparation to reflection. The major difficulties encountered are fully elaborated, and the causes of the difficulties are analyzed and the solutions are presented. The interrogation of smuggling-related cases is conducted in a highly procedural and logical way,and is highly demanding for interpreting quality. This report mainly focuses on how to prepare for the interrogation interpreting and how to deal with the possible difficulties properly,so as to guarantee interpreting quality.
