In this paper, the author adopts the theoretical framework of Critical DiscourseAnalysis (CDA) as the foundation to carry out a multi-layer and multi-angle analysisof legal interrogation interpretation, which he believes is the most proper theoreticaltool for formal discourse analysis like legal interrogation discourse. The first chapter is about CDA and its feasibility in legal interrogation discourseanalysis. In this chapter, the author illustrates his own intention of analyzing the legalinterrogation discourse based on CDA with specific stages and approaches. The following two chapters mark the main body of the entire work, including thegeneral description of legal interrogation, followed by a CDA-based analysis of legalinterrogation interpreting discourse demonstrated with three complete passages ofreal interrogation records with English translations. The analysis is carried out withthree emphases: vocabulary, modal system and transitivity, which are also the mostsignificant three aspects to reveal the hidden power relations in legal interrogationprocess.Given that the opinions and materials adopted in the paper are all based on theauthor’s personal practice of legal interrogation interpretations, this paper alsocontains practical contents which might be helpful for other interpreters, such asqualifications required for interpreters, together with coping strategies in differentsituations. To reveal the hidden relation in legal interrogation by analyzing the vocabulary, modal system and transitivity of the discourse and then conclude the features of legalinterrogation discourse on the basis of such a CDA-oriented analysis is the ultimategoal of the author of writing this paper. The author also hopes that the advicesoffered in this paper can be helpful for others to some extent.
