| The translation materials of this report are excerpted from The Letters of Samuel Johnson,which consists of five volumes,and incorporates totally 1683 letters written by Samuel Johnson.The report focuses on the translation practice of the first fifty letters of the third volume.Based on the textual analysis,the author of the report summarizes the characteristics of the source text on both lexical and syntactic levels,and analyzes the applicability of Communicative Translation proposed by Newmark to the translation practice.The case analysis is used to analyze the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation process,and to elucidate some effective translation skills adopted from the perspective of Communicative Translation to make the target text smoother,clearer and more expressive.In the end,it is concluded that Communicative Translation is applicable to the translation of epistolary texts from English into Chinese. |
