E-C Translation Report Of Chemical Equipment Instruction Book In The Context Of Trados

Chemical English is an important branch of scientific English.The characteristics like too many terminologies,highly specialized and complex background knowledge make it become one of the most difficult fields in translation studies.But,with the acceleration of globalization and the rapid development of the translation industry,the emergence of computer-aided translation softwares represented by Trados has relieved the cumbersome work and played a positive role in translation.In order to enrich the translation study of chemical English and with the help of computer-aided tool,the author analyzes some problems in the translation process and proposes corresponding solutions.Based on the CM Catalyst Regeneration Control System Equipment Instruction&Date Book,the author selects 15,000 words from it as the translation and research materials for this practice report.In linguistic level,the language analysis between the chemical English and the source text shows the feasibility of using Trados as the translation tool.Then,the features and workflow of Trados are introduced in details.In technical level,by contrasting the differences between machine translation and computer-aided translation,the author finds out the advantages of computer-aided translation over machine translation.In practical level,through case analysis,this report analyzes the main factors of translation and re-translation in the context of Trados from three aspects,"lexical","syntactic",and "textuar".On the basis of this,the translation effect of Chemical English with Trados as assistance can be evaluated objectively.This practice report shows that,firstly,chemical English has some features like more technical terms,high similarity in content and objective languages,which makes it become one of the most suitable translation fields for Trados.Secondly,translating in the context of Trados can reduce repetitive labor,shorten the time of searching words and improve translation efficiency.Finally,although Trados plays a great role in translation,the reference version and terminology tips provided by it are not all correct.Translators should exert their subjective initiative to faithfully convey the style and content of the original text so as to conform to Chinese expression.In addition,the installation of Trados Software requires one's skillful operation of computer,translators also need to improve their operation and document processing capabilities.The author hopes that this report can provide some references for students who are studying for the degree of master of translation and those who are trying to translate chemical equipment book for the first time.
