In recent years,as the international community has reached a consensus on international environmental goals, many countries, including Australia, have an obligation to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas. However, this move is bound to have a huge impact on the economic structure of Australia and even China. However, the author consults the relevant literature and finds that at present, the research on the Australian economy is not sufficient,so this translation report is intended to provide reference for research in related fields. The functional equivalence theory was put forward by American linguist Eugene Nida.He advocated paying attention to the needs of the target readers during the process of the translation. The rigid literal correspondence in the translation is not advisable, and functional equivalence between the source language and the target language can be achieved by lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. This is a report on the E-C translation of Chapter 10 in an economic text named The Australian Economy. For this translation task, the feature of an economic text is analyzed and the proper translation strategies are studied based on Nida's functional equivalence theory from lexicology, syntax and text to overcome difficulties and solve problems encountered during the translation practice so as to improve the efficiency of translation.Through this translation practice, the author realized that the functional equivalence theory is of great value in guiding the practice of translation of the economic text. After summarizing the translation experience of this task, the author put forward the prospects and suggestions in order to provide reference for the translation of economic texts in the future.
