One of the goals of English teaching is to make sure that students can communicate with others from diverse cultural backgrounds in English.English Syllabus in Common High Schools requires students to know multi-culture and foster intercultural awareness.English culturally-loaded words play a major role in transmitting cultures.However,through investigations,this study has found that the current English words' teaching ignores the teaching of culturally-loaded words and their cultural connotations,and pays little attention to cultivating students' intercultural awareness.As a result,students are not able to use English language properly in intercultural communications because they do not understand the connotations of culturally-loaded words.Therefore,this study has explored the methods of cultivating students' intercultural awareness through the teaching of English culturally-loaded words in senior high school,so as to strengthen students' culturally-loaded words level and improve their intercultural communicative competence.Based on the theories of cultural context and intercultural communicative competence,this study takes 98 students in Grade Ten of Xinyang Senior High School as the study subject and conducts a four-month teaching experiment on them,using questionnaire and test methods to explore the following two questions:(1)How is the correlation between the culturally-loaded words teaching and students' intercultural awareness cultivating?(2)How do English teachers teach culturally-loaded words in order to enhance students' intercultural awareness and promote their culturally-loaded words learning?After the teaching experiment,the following conclusions have been drawn by analyzing the data through SPSS22.0:(1)The correlation between English culturally-loaded words teaching and students' intercultural awareness cultivation is positive.(2)Compared with the traditional method of words teaching which lays much more stress on grammar and translation,the method of English culturally-loaded words teaching which is integrated with the cultivation of intercultural awareness can better improve students' intercultural awareness and promote students' vocabulary learning,and finally enhance their intercultural communicative competence.Combined with the analysis of the experimental results,some implications on culturally-loaded words teaching and limitations of this study have been set out.Besides,some related suggestions have also been come up with for the future study.
