A Study On The Funeral Rites Of Tang Dynasty Emperors

By means of literature review and chart analysis,this paper makes a special discussion on the funeral rites of Tang Dynasty emperors,which is divided into five chapters.The author thinks that many contents of the funeral rites of the emperors before Tang Dynasty had an important influence on the funeral rites of the emperors in Tang Dynasty.The ritual system of the early Tang Dynasty inherited the Sui Dynasty.?Zhen-Guan-Li?compiled by Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty is a relatively complete rites.It contains the contents of the funeral rites of emperors,which were later deleted by Emperor Gaozong,resulting in the lack of the contents of the funeral rites of emperors in the official rites of Tang Dynasty.During the funeral of the emperor of Tang Dynasty,Emperor Dezong ordered Yan Zhenqing to write the ?Yuan-Ling-YiZhu?as a detailed rule,which not only reshaped the national pension,but also had a profound impact on the later generations.There are various procedures and characteristics of the funeral rites of Tang Dynasty emperors.In the late Tang Dynasty,the envoys of mourning followed the rules of etiquette to deal with affairs,and played an important role in the smooth transition of imperial power under the complicated and changeable situation.In Tang Dynasty,the emperor's mourning clothes in dealing with the funeral were also constrained by the etiquette system.Its main feature was to highlight the royal nobility and replace one month with one week.There are also many steps in the funeral ceremony of Tang Dynasty emperors,among which the steps before Qian Dian were held in Taiji hall and Taimiao in Chang'an City,and the steps after Qian Dian were held in mausoleums outside Chang'an city.There are also many steps in the Tang Dynasty's imperial ritual,most of which come from the Zhou ritual and have the characteristics of the Tang Dynasty's ritual system,reflecting the same important thoughts of family ritual and national ritual.
