Beryl Smalley is a well-known female medieval historian in the 20 th century in the United Kingdom.She has made outstanding contributions to the study of the annotated Bible in the Middle Ages.Her learning and research experience spans half a century before and after World War II,showing the process of Oxford University's medieval research tradition gradually shifting from constitutional history to the ideology history,especially the change in theological thought research.In the middle and late 19 th century,England gradually established the research tradition of medieval constitutional history.With the efforts of several generations of British historians,the research tradition of medieval began to change gradually in the 1930 s.With the advent of the Study of the Medieval Bible,By examining Smalley's research,we can explore her original contribution in the field of medieval Bible interpretation and medieval ideology and culture.The main work of Smalley's life focused on the interpretation of the Bible in the middle ages,which opened a new way for later scholars to study this field?The expansion and return of Smalley's teaching life and research fields reflect the academic reflection from the Second World War to the1980 s,which also has important historical and academic significance.For most of his life,Smalley revolved around the interpretation of the Bible in the Middle Ages,opening up a new path for future scholars to study in this field.
