Based on the first four chapters of The Welsh Girl, this translation report mainly draws a conclusion of the translation problems, key points as well as difficulties, and summarizes the translation strategies and methods of historical novels and round and flat figures. As a historical novel, the book is settled in the true events, turning out to be a typical descriptive text.In The Welsh Girl, plenty of figures appearing constantly contribute to abundant descriptive information. The round and flat figures process corresponding functions and significance;therefore, obviously, the translation of these involving figures is considered as the vital and difficult part.Besides, translating novels requires more than accuracy, vividness, and concreteness, but most importantly, the original author's writing style should be reflected. To achieve this goal, the translator chiefly takes the free translation method and other techniques like addition, conversion, extension as well as omission. In this report, the translator summarizes the translation methods and techniques used in translating the descriptive information about historical novel figures, and introspects what needs to be improved.By enumerating typical cases followed by its analysis, the translator hopes to provide reference and help for similar cases and further studies on novel translation in the future.
