Translation Memory And Terminology Management

Nowadays,with the development of science and technology,the economic and cultural exchanges between countries continue to expand and deepen,which creates more opportunities for the language service industry and promotes the development of the language service industry towards specialization,digitization and networking.As one of the emerging translation technologies,computer aided translation(CAT)has been widely and frequently used in language service industry.Translation memory(TM)database and terminology database,as the core components of CAT technology,have greatly improved the efficiency and quality of translation.This paper is based on the author's internship experience as a translator in Shanghai Language Services Center for Cultural Trade from January 21 to the end of February 2019.During the internship,the author participated in several projects and was responsible for project requirements analysis,corpus selection,tool preparation,establishment and maintenance of translation memory and terminology database.Taking the "Shanghai Opera Corpus Database Programme" as an example,this paper analyzes the practice workflow of management of TM and terminology database in the language service industry.In this thesis the author summarizes the problems encountered in the work,such as the lack of unified management guidelines and effective communication,and tries to give the company-level management guidelines to explore the better solutions to the establishment and maintenance of TM and terminology database.During the internship,the author realized the importance of process standardization and the quality standards of TM and terminology database for language service enterprises.Good management of TM and terminology database can help enterprises improve the quality and efficiency of language service and enhance the corporate image.In translation teaching,real projects can be introduced into the teaching of translation technologies such as TM and terminology database,so as to cultivate MTI students' professional qualities with more complex practical projects.At the same time,students majoring in translation should improve their understanding and mastery of various CAT tools through specific translation practices.Finally,the author hopes to help language service enterprises and translation majors to deepen their understanding of translation technologies such as TM and terminology database and to attach more importance to the relevant management work.
