Computer-aided translation(CAT)technology has proved to be efficient for improving the productivity in scientific and technical translation.Yet it has been rarely employed in the translation of other types of texts, such as cookbooks.Usually cookbooks consist of two types of texts—descriptive and procedural;the latter is in the form of recipes which include preliminaries and cooking procedures. The procedural text has a high rate of repetition and a large number of terminologies so that CAT tools may be applicable to the translation of this type of text.Based on the translation of one chapter of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, this report aims to explore how to use CAT tools to reduce the workload of cookbook translation, especially the translation of recipes, through analyzing the mechanism of translation memory and terminology database, thereby increasing translation productivity and providing a new approach to cookbook translation. The translation project is divided into three parts in this report:translation preparation, translation process, and translation review. The first part includes document format conversion, preparation for translation memory and term base, configuration of the MT plug-in,etc.The second part introduces how to create a translation project and edit the translation in MemoQ 2015.The third part demonstrates how to review the translation and assure translation quality.Statistics show that CAT tools can help translators improve their translation productivity when dealing with cookbooks.
