The Construction And Application Of Terminology Database In Large-Scale Translation Projects

With the rapid development of science and technology, translation industry is facing ever more complicated contents and more large-scale translation projects. In such projects, there are usually a large number of terms of various professions. Considering time saving and consistency of terms, terminology database, a function provided by many CAT tools, is widely applied in translation projects. The application of terminology technology meets the growing requirements of the clients and translators by shortening the delivery cycles. The appropriate and scientific application of terminology database is of vital important for large-scale translation projects.The construction and application of the terminology database is one of the most essential phases for large-scale translation projects. In this paper, the author takes the translation of The History of the Medieval World as a case. The project utilized the translation software memo Q, a state-of-art application in the pool of CAT tools. Through the case study, the author focuses on the application of terminology database in large-scale translation projects, and analyzes the contents of terminology database in this large-scale historical text of The History of the Medieval World.
