This translation practice report is based on the first two chapters of Leadership Strategy and Tactics: Field Manual, written by American best-selling author Jocko Willink. In the selected source text, the original author summarizes the basic principles of leadership strategies based on his own military career experience. The translation material is featured by the use of long and complex sentences, which are major difficulties of the whole translation process. The original text mainly belongs to a vocative text according to text typology.Newmark proposes that the vocative text should be translated communicatively. Thus the translation material is translated dominantly under the guidance of communicative translation and supplemented by semantic translation.Focusing on the translation of long and complex sentences, the translator explores division, inversion, idiomatic translation, conversion and amplification with the help of communicative translation, and linear translation by semantic translation. This report briefly introduces the background of this report as well as the translation theory employed. And it describes the task progress including pre-task preparation, difficulties encountered and post-task control.Besides, the translator selects 17 typical examples in translating long and complex English sentences and analyzes them carefully with the help of text typology. At last, the translator summarizes the effect of text typology in translating long and complex English sentences. And the translator carries on this report with the expec tation that it can benefit the development of Chinese enterprise group workers and leaders at every level and every field.
