The rapid growth of China's economy has also brought remarkable changes to people's lives.And then people gradually attach great importance to their material life and at the same time their spiritual life.In order to meet their pursuits in these aspects,China began to constantly update its domestic works,increase its translation tasks to absorb foreign excellent literature and culture.Especially in recent years,the Chinese translation of western novels has been becoming more and more mature,which not only promotes the cultural exchanges between countries,but plays a very important role in inheriting the world civilization.This report is the report of the translation of the first four chapters of All Grown Up.All Grown Up is written by Jamie Attenberg,a famous American writer and a best-selling writer of the New York Times.Thanks to its unique warm-hearted and humorous writing style,All Grown up once published was selected as the best-selling book of the year of 2017 in the United States,the best-selling book of Los Angeles Times,Book Sense Pick of American Booksellers Association and Association of Southern California,the best novel of Kirkus Reviews and others.In view of the influence All Grown Up has brought to the contemporary academic and cultural fields,the author of the report,with functional equivalence theory put forward to by Eugene A.Nida as the reference in the process of translation,comprehensively expounds and systematically sums up the specific problems such as translation skills of the documents.In addition,the author of the report translated these first four chapters under the guidance of functional equivalence theory in order to achieve the same feelings of the source readers and the target readers.Furthermore,the author of the report has used repetition,amplification,omission,negation,conversion and sentence structure adjustment as it looks to achieve lexical,syntactic,textual and stylistic equivalence and to maintain the correct transferring of the meaning and the style when transforming English into Chinese.This report is written to provide some of practical references for other translators in compiling the similar essays,and also explore a new perspective for the research of translation theory.
