Encyclopedias and dictionaries are representative of ancient and modern knowledge tools.This article takes the Encyclopedias Ye-Hang-Chuan compiled by thinker and writer Zhang Dai and Chinese Dictionary and Revised edition of mandarin dictionary in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties as research objects.By examining the scope of documentary evidence,the style of documentary evidence,and the content of interpretations,this paper examines the historical continuation and development of encyclopedias and dictionaries,and seeks a useful way for the standardization and precision of dictionary compilation.First of all,the basic situation of Ye-Hang-Chuan and Chinese Dictionary and Revised edition of mandarin dictionary was briefly introduced.Then Select 3470 entries from Ye-Hang-Chuan and compare them with Chinese Dictionary and Revised edition of mandarin dictionary one by one.it analyzes the same parts of the citations of Ye-Hang-Chuan and Chinese Dictionary and Revised edition of mandarin dictionary.by comparing the 3470 materials selected from Ye-Hang-Chuan with the Chinese Dictionary one by one,it is counted that there are 604 quotations that are exactly the same in the Chinese Dictionary and Ye-Hang-Chuan.There are 47 materials whose quotations are roughly the same but they are different in historical sources.There are 257 quotes in Revised Edition of Mandarin Dictionary and Ye-Hang-Chuan,which are completely the same,but are different in historical sources.There are 16 materials which are different in historical sources but are similar in content;And summarized that Ye-Hang-Chuan has three characteristics including changing the original quoted articles,four quotations,historical tendency.It can also be found that the distribution of documentary evidence of the Chinese Dictionary and the Revised edition of mandarin dictionary has different characteristics.It summarizes the structural differences between encyclopedias and dictionaries.1464 materials are different in citations.It was found that 62 materials in the Chinese Dictionary had missed meanings,and meanings of three materials were misunderstood.three example in the book did not match;1222 materials are different in citations;and 1976 materials wasn't input into the entry Ye-Hang-Chuan.Among them,72 materials in the Revised Edition of Mandarin Dictionary have missed meanings and three materials were misunderstood.five errors were made in Ye-Hang-Chuan Finally,the words in the YeHang-Chuan that were missed in Chinese Dictionary and Revised Edition of Mandarin Dictionary were taken as examples to illustrate that the encyclopedias and dictionaries point to different talent shaping models.Among them,1276 articles were missed in the Chinese Dictionary,and 1976 articles were missed in the Revised Edition of Mandarin Dictionary.Through the comparison of Ye-Hang-Chuan,Chinese Dictionary and Revised Edition of Mandarin Dictionary,It is concluded that there are structural differences,epochal differences,and functional differences between encyclopedias and dictionaries.author believes that encyclopedia can not only provide materials for dictionary compilation,but also correct errors in the dictionary itself,and provide a reference for dictionary revision.Conversely,dictionaries can also provide sources of material for encyclopedia and correct their misleading and omissions.Encyclopedias and dictionaries are mutually authenticated and complementary.Complement each other,coexist and share prosperity,and dictionary editing and encyclopedias research each benefit from its own benefits.
