On The Study Of Chen Xulu’s Modern Historical Figures

Chen Xulu(1918-1988),born in Shuangfeng,Hunan Province,is a famous expert in the study of modern Chinese history.He has made outstanding contributions to the study on the revolution of 1911,the history of warlords and historical figures.Especially,he is famous in the academic circle for the purpose of modern history research of “metabolism”.As a scholar of the "post may 4th" generation who came out of the Republic of China,he not only received traditional Chinese education,but also experienced the baptism of Marxist thought,and became a generation of Marxist historians who grew up after the founding of the people’s Republic of China.In the course of his study,he paid special attention to the study of modern historical figures.In modern society,the old and the new,the Chinese and the Western alternate and blend,the historical figures’ thoughts and faces in this period are more complex and changeable.Chen Xulu’s research on modern historical figures includes specialized figures,such as Zou Rong,Song Jiaoren,and others.He also has the quintessence of the theory of character research and evaluation,on the evaluation of historical figures,and more critical figures such as Floating Records.He put the purport of "metabolism" into the study of modern history and characters,and realized the historical idea that "Historical knowledge is the eye of pursuing historical studies ".Based on this,Chen Xulu took the method of "knowing people and discussing the world" as the command in the research methods of modern historical figures,and applied the traditional historical methods and Marxist historical research methods in the research,such as the combination of poetry and history,text analysis and class analysis.At the same time,in the academic transformation of the times,he bases himself on middle school and draws lessons from western historical concepts and methods,such as psychological historical methods,etc.And he made every effort to have a practical and accurate understanding of modern historical figures.As an important part of the study of historical figures,Chen Xulu also attached great importance to the evaluation of the words and deeds,thoughts and characters of modern historical figures.In terms of measurement standard,he used the perspective of social development,the attitude of the unity of class viewand historical view,put the stage theory,aspect theory,synthesis theory and other methods of character evaluation into practice,closely linked with the characteristics of "transformation" in modern character era,and gave reasonable comments to modern historical figures.On the whole,Chen Xulu integrates knowledge,broader contexts and reflection into the study of modern historical figures,forming his own unique characteristics of character study.
