On The C-E Translation Of Agriculture-Related Words With Chinese Characteristics

The source text of the translation project is the second chapter of Rural Reform and Development—A Case Study of China's Zhejiang Province,which illustrates the reform of the agricultural management system and the transformation from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture.A prominent feature of the source text is that it includes a large number of agriculturerelated words with Chinese characteristics.These words are divided into agriculture-related organizations,agriculture-related policies,and agriculture-related culture-loaded words.Following the analysis,the author concludes that the translation of the names of agriculture-related organizations should follow the established translations,and for those without established translations,literal translation is adopted;for agriculture-related policies with numeral abbreviations,with the aim of conveying the policy information behind the numbers in an accurate manner,literal translation plus annotation and free translation are the major translation methods;for agriculture-related non-numeric policies,literal translation,literal translation plus annotation and free translation are the main methods adopted;as culture-loaded words have a large coverage,the translation methods vary flexibly among literal translation,literal translation plus annotation,free translation and transliteration with explanation.
