The 25thh Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair is one of the major trade fairs in western China and has developed into an international exhibition. The interpreter has worked as a volunteer in Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Gansu Province for 13days.Accompanied by the interpreter, the delegation of the Third Province of Nepal paid a visit to Gansu Provincial Museum on July 6th,2019.The museum guide made an arrangement for the Nepalese delegation to visit three exhibition halls, namely, the Silk Road Exhibition, the Art of Gansu Painted Pottery and the Buddhist Art.Adopted as the guiding theory of this interpreting task, the Skopos Theory centers on the purpose of interpreting, which plays a pivotal role in determining the interpreting strategies and methods. The purpose of this interpreting task was to introduce the culture of precious exhibits in the museum to Nepalese delegation in an understandable way.In this report, there were such different challenges in the process of interpreting as culture-loaded words,four-character phrases and rhetorical devices. Some specific cases were chosen to analyze from the above difficulties and four corresponding interpreting techniques were adopted to cope with such challenges. In this report, such interpreting techniques as amplification, omission, paraphrase and combination were employed under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Amplification is necessary to explain the historical background information about culture-loaded words;omission is adopted to make a further explanation for rhetorical devices to reduce redundancy in Chinese;paraphrase is used to explain four-character phrases to make foreigners easier to comprehend.Meanwhile, this practice report also illustrated the preparation work, the interpreting process and reflections, hoping to provide some reference for future interpreting tasks in the museum.
