The Evolution Of Chinese Mass Media Writing Techniques Since The Reform And Opening Up

This article analyzes the development of the writing techniques shown in the Chinese mass media in four stages since the reform and opening-up by studying some representative works in the Chinese major mass media.Mass media refers to media technologies that reach a large audience.Newspapers,radio,television and magazines were the four traditional types of mass media.Now,with the rapid development of the Internet,Internet media has become an indispensable or even the most important part of the mass media.To get the more effective communication via mass media,writing techniques have changed a lot to fit the content and communication ways.The writing techniques are discussed in this article include the choice of the article genre,the determination of the theme,the selection of the subject,the narrative angle,the way of expression,the style of writing,the length of the text,the rhetorical devices and so on.The writing techniques have evolved from monotonous to pluralistic,from elite to vulgarness in the past 42 years.By studying a large number of related studies and analyzing a large number of writing samples,this article divides the development of Chinese mass media into four stages roughly by the popularity or the iconic medium.During these four stages,there are three main trends in the development of mass media writing techniques.Firstly,the writing techniques transfer from political propaganda to more complicated social reflection.From the "microphone" of major events to the "supervision of public opinion" in the mid-1990 s,and then to the Internet-based expression of official media today,media writing techniques become more flexible and humane.Secondly,the audience promotes writing techniques to popularity and maturity.Nowadays,the boarder between the information sender and receiver is quite vague.The audience,readers and listeners,can be the writer as well.The audience consciousness of a writer is an important factor that directly affects writing techniques.Thirdly,technological innovation has brought significantchanges to media writing techniques.Different technologies have brought about different forms of media expression.At the same time,the development of the technologies makes the threshold for media writing lower and lower.
