This is a translation project report on biography Mrs.Morhard and the Boys,from chapter eleven to chapter thirteen,written by an American biographer Ruth Hanford Morhard and published in February 2019.Mrs.Morhard and the Boys centers on a series of moving stories about a strong and great mother who built the Little League.The translator hopes this translation process can improve translation skills.At the same time,acquiring a deeper understanding of the living conditions and spiritual outlook of the American people at that special timeThere are a large number of fixed collocation in the original text,as well as proper nouns about baseball play positions and the name of many outstanding baseball players,which requires the translator to search for a large number of encyclopedic background queries,thus the accuracy of the translation can be ensured.In addition,the original text consists of many long and complex sentences.Due to the differences between English and Chinese expressions and culture,the translator must master excellent translation strategies and flexibly use it for a satisfactory translation version.Though the language in this biography is plain,the narrative is vivid and the prose is full of interest.On the basis of referring to relevant theories,the translator finally chooses the Skopos Theory of the German Functional School as the guiding theory of this translation practice.At the same time,under the guidance of it,the methods of four-word pattern,addition and omission,decomposition,combination,transformation(including word formation and conversion of voice),inversion and reorganization etc.are used.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator tries to make the translation fluent and coherent as possible as he can,thus realize the function of cross-communicationThrough this translation practice and the writing of this translation project report,the author has a deeper understanding of the Skopos Theory of the German Functional School and understand the importance of theoretical guidance in translation practice,the necessity of simultaneous improvement of the ability on bilingualism,and the support of teamwork.At the same time,patience and persistence in the process of translation are also essential qualities for translators.
