This project report is based on the author's experience in translating Chapter 3 "Equal Employment Opportunities" of The Law of Sex Discrimination. The selected chapter is extracted from the United States Supreme Court's jurisprudence on cases of gender discrimination in employment and explores the determination of bona fide occupational qualifications of the court of the United States. At a time when the job market is becoming more and more competitive, discrimination in employment is still becoming more and more common.Sex discrimination is particularly evident in employment discrimination. The laws and regulations in China on employment discrimination are not yet perfect, and if relevant laws and regulations could be perfected,it would be of great significance to improve the phenomenon of employment discrimination. The author translates this work, aiming at popularizing the sex discrimination law and raising people's legal awareness in the workplace, hoping that it can help reduce or even eliminate this phenomenon more or less.Since this project is a legal text, the author thinks that Nida's theory of functional equivalence could provide theoretical guidance on translating the text of this kind of genre according to the characteristics of functional equivalence. Therefore, under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the author adopts the strategies of amplification and omission to realize the equivalence of lexicon, syntax and text in the original text, and retains the form and content of the original text.Through this translation practice, the author has accumulated the experience of legal translation, which will be heuristic to the future translation career.
