This report is on Chinese translation of Boston Globe Media Partners,LLC vs.Department of Public Health issued by United States Supreme Court.Based on Nida's concept of “dynamic equivalence”,this report analyzes the textual characteristics of the American judgment, and then discusses the main difficulties in translation from the equivalence in meaning and style, and proposes corresponding translation techniques.Equivalence in meaning indicates that the meaning of source text can be rendered by dint of four translation techniques, namely corresponding legal terms, appropriate selection of multiple implications, sentence restructuring, and voice change.Equivalence in style demonstrates that the stylistic features of source text can be kept through wording consistency, retention of affirmative sentence structure, and retention of case citations. This report indicates that the translation of legal texts intends to convey the meaning of legal source texts and achieve the same legal effect instead of translating word for word and sentence by sentence.
