The Chinese to French consecutive interpretation of Chinese official speeches is of particular difficulty for specific reasons such as: language register and rhetoric, language command of Chinese or need of solid knowledge about diplomatic affairs.Foreign students willing to pursue further studies in the field of interpreting often come to the realization that they are far from being familiar with more formal speeches. This phenomenon has its roots in either the pedagogical system of teaching Chinese as a foreign language or simply in the type of content foreign students usually consume, since most of the content is closely related to daily life or general knowledge.Hence these factors make the process of interpreting official speeches for foreign students, who are interpreting from Chinese(language B),utterly difficult. For this reason,it is of value to study and propose targeted strategies for Chinese-French interpreter students.Using the case “the launching ceremony of State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi at the 55 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France" as a launching point, this study looks into two main barriers: listening comprehension and note-taking.This study proposes several coping strategies from the perspective of interpreting, such as accumulation of specific expressions,de-verbalization and optimization of notation system. From these we hope that it can be used for reference and enlightenment for future international students, and help them to have the ability to better fulfill an interpreting task, especially for students whose Chinese levels are approximately between C1 and C2.
