Listening comprehension is the foundation of interpretation. To a large extent, itdetermines the quality of the delivery. However, for interpreters with Chinese as their Alanguage, listening comprehension of Chinese is largely ignored during interpretationpractice. After doing A to B consecutive interpretation for Choosing the right strategy ofChina’s financial reform at2013Shanghai Forum, the author realized that many of theproblems occurred in delivery are caused by a lack of theme-related knowledge and a poorunderstanding of source language’s logic.In this paper, the author will first discuss the uniqueness and importance of listeningcomprehension in interpretation, and then list recognized factors that hinder listeningcomprehension and define factors that will be discussed in this paper. After analyzingmistakes occurred during interpretation, the author will suggest a few methods to grasptheme-related knowledge and enhance understanding of source language’s logic, hoping toremove some of the obstacles in listening comprehension for interpreters with Chinese astheir A language.
