The Translation Of Chinese Culturally-Loaded Words In Museum Exhibition

This paper is a case study based on the translation of culture-loaded words of two exhibitions texts of Hainan Museum.In order to promote the spread of the Chinese culture,museum exhibitions texts are often translated into English,so as to enhance foreigners' awareness regarding Chinese history and culture.The texts of exhibitions of artifacts often contain rich cultural connotations,imposing many translation difficulties.The translation of culturally-loaded words is considered one of the most common challenges encountered by translators.Over time,many scholars have studied culturally-loaded words and proposed various translation strategies.Of course,these translation strategies depend on different factors,including the type and purpose of the text.Since most studies focus on literary translation and the purpose of literary translation is different from that of museum texts,I decided to study the translation strategies used in translating such texts,focusing on how to choose appropriate translation strategies based on the type and purpose of the text,the category of culture-loaded words and the specific context in which they appear in the text.In addition,I will emphasize the importance of research in the translation process of culturally-loaded words.I hope that the translation strategies introduced in this paper can provide some reference for other translators when dealing with similar texts.
