C-E Transaltion Of Technical Terms In Sci-tech Texts

This study aims to analyze the typical problems in translating Chinese sci-tech terms into English and discuss feasible ways of solving them,using real examples taken from a Chinese-English translation project based on the design specification of a CSP(Concentrating Solar Power)generation project,of which the author is a translation team member.Based on a review of previous literature and a comparison of the different translation of such terms,it summarizes two major challenges in term translation,i.e.conflicting existing translated names and common words used as terms.Then it further proposes two corresponding strategies for each one of them.For the former,using contexts to select the equivalent translation,and confirm it with the help professional term resources;for the latter,seek help from websites and forums to figure out what the term means,and then deal with it through direct translation and/or free translation.Through such evidence-based analysis,this thesis aims to introduce some effective and reasonable research methods,especially to translators who lack experience in sci-tech translation,so as to reduce the mistranslation of terms and promote the unity and standardization of the English translation of Chinese sci-tech terms.
