Student interpreters or interpreting trainees may find errors and information loss are problems that are very common. These are also two of the most frequent problems that can be found in the author's interpretation for the mock conference “Refugee camps amid the Covid-19 pandemic”.The paper mainly focuses on information loss and errors that cannot be simply explained by failures in listening, understanding or memory. For many of the utterances interpreted, the information has been well understood, and has been either kept in the author's mind or written down on the notebook, while the interpretation ends up with some errors or loss of information. With the help of Gile's Effort Model for consecutive interpreting, this paper examines and analyses the causes of the problems above mentioned, which reveals the inefficient deployment of cognitive resources at different stages of interpreting, and then concludes with strategies that can be taken to lower cognitive load, promote better distribution of cognitive resources, and improve overall performance.
