This thesis is a report on the mock interpreting,which is based on the speech of Twelve Rules for Life Tour delivered by a famous psychologist Jordan Peterson.Through analyzing the record of this consecutive interpreting,the interpreter summarizes the causes of information loss in this mock interpreting,and finds coping strategies to compensate for information loss.This study chooses Gile’s Effort Model as the theoretical foundation.The analysis of this mock interpreting presents that information processing happens in the whole process of interpreting.When receiving the information of the source language,information loss will easily happen.On the whole,information loss will happen in the process of memory,understanding and improper energy allocation.The complicated interpreting task will cause overload energy,and information processing capacity reaching saturation condition.With differences between Chinese and English,all these prove the possibility of information loss in consecutive interpreting.Based on previous studies about information loss,the interpreter finds the reasons for information loss in this mock interpreting,including lexical difficulties,syntactic differences and illogical source language.And the interpreter puts forward with coping strategies,respectively including explanation,restructuring and summarization to compensate for information loss.Finally,the interpreter summarizes that the information loss will make a negative impact on interpreting quality,and it can effectively avoid through finding causes and strategies.
