Translation Strategies For Postpositive Attributives From The Perspective Of Translation Shift Theory

This report selects some chapters in sci-tech text Combating Global Warming as practice.The book mainly introduces a series of changes brought by global warming,focusing on the current food security problem and putting forward the importance of crop wild relatives.Due to the rigorous use of words and complicated sentence patterns in scientific texts,the purpose of this report is to solve some translation obstacles and propose corresponding translation methods by exploring the translation of postpositive attributives in scientific and technological texts,so as to make the expression of the translated text clearer,more accurate,and easier to understand,and conform to the habits of the target language readers.In the process of translation,under the guidance of Translation Shift Theory which is proposed by English linguist Catford.The theory can be divided into level shifts and category shifts,and the latter can be further subdivided into structure shifts,class shifts,unit shifts and intra-system shifts.And four common strategies,namely,division,inversion,amplification and conversion,are used to provide solutions to the obstacles encountered in translation for the convenience of analyzing and solving problems.The report is divided into six parts.The first chapter illustrates the research background,significance of the research and literature review.The second chapter describes the project process.The third chapter elaborates the Translation Shift Theory.The fourth chapter is the brief introduction of the postpositive attributive.The fifth chapter,the main part of this thesis,proposes proper translation strategies to cope with the problems.The last chapter is the summary of this report.
