Degree complements are a typical sort of Chinese complements, but they have not received as much attention as they should in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Degree complements are also an important and difficult teaching point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. However, there is a lack of error studies related to it,especially among Cambodian college students. To sort out the irregularities and avoidance problems of Cambodian college students in using Chinese degree complements, this thesis applies classroom observation, corpus analysis and a questionnaire survey method to conduct a comprehensive investigation.Through the error analysis,it can be concluded that error types of Cambodian university students using Chinese degree complements include incorrect addition, omission, disordering, avoidance, misusing, error substitution, improper collocation, and mixed sentence patterns;Main causes for those errors are avoidance psychology of narrative-complement structure, the negative transfer of Cambodian grammar rules,Chinese language grammatical rules analogy, improper configuration of the language status of degree complements, and the mixed use of degree complement subclasses;Based on the types of and causes for the errors,it is believed that situation-based teaching and practicing, increasing interests of classes, adding targeted exercises,stepby-step teaching, predicting and highlighting important and difficult teaching points, comparing the target language with students' mother tongues, and configuring the appropriate language status can effectively improve the learning quality of Cambodian college students.Based on empirical investigation and research, this thesis attempts to make the error studies of degree complements more comprehensive, aiming to provide a national reference for Chinese teaching in Cambodia.
