Dacia Maraini is one of the most important women writers in contemporary Italy and She is also an active feminist.Although Maraini is very prolific and has a long-standing reputation, there is not much research on this female writer at home and abroad.Deep comparative studies on her works in different periods are even rarer. Therefore, this article explores the gradual awakening of female consciousness in her works by analyzing the typical female images in her debut novel La Vacanza and the most important transformational novel Donna in Guerra.Based on the texts, this article analyzes images of several typical women in these two novels by integrating the basic concepts of "Masquerade" "Androgyny" and "Gender Identity" in feminist literary critical theories, and combining the methods of sociocultural background and psychological analysis.Based on this, the author discusses the causes and specific manifestations of writers' female consciousness in terms of the writer's life and second feminist movement background, and then places the writer and her works in their respective development processes of neo-feminist literature to dig deeper into her two representative novels from the beginning to the final awakening of female consciousness, which has profound impact on literature, culture and society. From Anna, whose feminine consciousness is not clear in La Vacanza,to Vaninna, who has completed self-salvation after hard struggle in Donna in Guerra,Maraini's feminist literary ideas have become more mature.Under the influence of a special life experience and the second wave of feminist movements in her era,the writer's female consciousness has shown two distinct states of "lost" and "awakening" in these two works, which shows a clear transformation and development from one to the other. The author groundbreakingly explores the feminine appeals transmitted by the two works and the different degrees of positive influence in the society at that time under the different stages of the development of neo-feminist literature, affirming that Maraini's extremely outstanding contributions and literary status compared with other feminist writers of the same era. Finally, the author considers the status quo of feminism nowadays and looks forward to the development of women in the present age.
